Over 43 million tonnes of water have been channeled from the coast of Fujian Province to Kinmen since a water supply project began official operations in August 2018, a spokesperson for the Chinese mainland said on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that water from coastal Fujian accounts for 81.9 percent of the total regular water supply at Kinmen's waterworks.
Zhu said that the mainland has always actively supported the economic and social development of Kinmen, taking continuous measures to enhance the well-being of its residents.
Currently, coastal Fujian supplies an approximate daily average of 21,000 tonnes of water to Kinmen, she noted.
She said that preliminary technical preparations for electricity, gas and bridge connections between coastal Fujian and Kinmen have also been largely completed.
