Construction officially began today on the livelihood support project for the Laos-China 500kV Interconnection Project: the Namo Tay Village Primary School in Namo District, Oudomxay Province, Laos.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. Bounkhong lachiamphone, Secretary of the Oudomxay Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Oudomxay Province; representatives from Electricité du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDL-T), a joint venture between Lao state-run Electricité du Laos (EDL) and China Southern Power Grid (CSG); and officials from the project's design and construction teams.

In his speech, Mr. Bounkhong lachiamphone emphasized the importance of the school to improving local educational infrastructure. He highlighted the project as a reflection of EDL-T's care and commitment to the well-being of local residents and children, noting that the school will provide better learning and living conditions for school-age children in Namo once completed.

With an investment of nearly USD 300,000, the project is scheduled for completion and handover in November this year. It includes the construction of six classrooms, one administrative office, and supporting sports and living facilities. The school will serve over 100 children of primary and kindergarten age. The initiative not only improves educational access for children in remote mountainous areas, but also brings new hope to local families through education.

Following the project's completion, EDL-T plans to establish a regular volunteer teaching program to further promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between Laos and China.

The Laos-China 500kV Interconnection Project is a key undertaking under the Laos-China Community of Shared Future Action Plan. It consists of a Lao section and a China domestic section, invested and constructed by EDL-T and China Southern Power Grid, respectively.
