A China-Japan peace and friendship exchange meeting has been held in Japan's Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The event on Sunday was hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Nagoya, drawing over 140 participants from both countries.

Zhao Baogang, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, stressed in his speech that China is committed to working with peace-loving Japanese to firmly oppose any attempt to distort, beautify, or deny the history of aggression.

He emphasized the shared responsibility to safeguard historical truth and human conscience, and to promote a peaceful future.

Chinese Consul General in Nagoya, Yang Xian, stressed China's significant role in the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, and said China is willing to work with all walks of life in Japan to remember history, learn from history, and jointly create a bright future for Sino-Japanese relations.

Japanese House of Representatives member Isao Matsuda emphasized the importance of learning from history to build a peaceful future and expressed renewed determination to advance Japan-China relations.

Noriyuki Kawamura, president of the Tokai Japan-China Relations Society, said that acknowledging wartime history is key to preventing future conflict.

A highlight of the event was the donation of historical materials by Satoshi Daito, abbot of Enkoji Temple in Aichi Prefecture, to the Chinese side. The collection included rare photographs of the Japanese invasion of China.

Daito, who has spent nearly two decades collecting such documents, stated that historical records are crucial to uncovering the truth and represent a first step toward peace.
